This past weekend, despite my initial thought of not attending, I was convinced to attend MagicCon 2025 in sunny and warm Las Vegas, Nevada. MagicCon is a 3-day event hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall. This 3-day event brought together guests who shared a passion for Magic: The Gathering, allowing them to meet and compete against other players from around the world. Though you could play all weekend, guests could buy cards to add to their collection or sell cards for a profit. Panels were planned throughout the weekend, from a preview panel where guests could see the future of Magic in the coming years to watching the cast of Game Knights compete against each other in front of a live convention audience.

One of the main focuses of this year’s convention was the new set of Final Fantasy-inspired cards that many vendors and even the official merch store were selling to eager players and collectors. Many congoers even dressed up as their favorite Final Fantasy characters to get in the spirit of not only the card game, but also the beloved video game series.

I think one of the highlights was seeing a Cloud and Aerith from Final Fantasy VII play a game of Commander and have Gavin Verhey (Principal Magic: The Gathering Designer) tear down my web of excuses for not playing any of the Final Fantasy games. Yes, I know, not a single one I played, but he and Jaesa Evermore have convinced me to play, so wish me luck on that one. Also, if you have read this far, please go and support her at FirstComicNews.com and read her articles from MagicCon.

All in all, this past weekend, MagicCon was one I will not forget, and I am excited to add it to the list of conventions I will attend each year!
